NAMI South Dakota 2016 Annual Conference
Ramkota Hotel — Sioux Falls, SD
September 29-30, 2016
We have three fantastic keynote speakers joining us this year!
Ron Honberg, JD, serves as Senior Policy Advisor, Advocacy & Public Policy at NAMI. Mr. Honberg oversees NAMI’s federal advocacy agenda and NAMI’s work on legal and criminal justice issues.
Mr. Honberg has drafted amicus curiae briefs in precedent setting litigation affecting people with mental illnesses and has provided technical assistance to attorneys and NAMI affiliates on legal and public policy issues. He serves as a frequent resource for print and broadcast media on legal and policy issues. Mr. Honberg has a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and master’s degree in education from the University of Maryland.
Elise Bank, MS, LPC:
Elise received her B.A. in psychology from Baylor University and graduated with honors from the University of Houston, where she received her M.S. in Counseling. She currently travels with her platform Healthy Mind – Successful Life, where she works to break the stigma associated with mental health. When she is not traveling, Elise works as a clinical therapist in a private practice and a private school in Houston. After being crowned Miss International 2015, Elise was honored to be named a national ambassador for NAMI.
In her book, Sentenced to Life, you will see how Joan Becker’s personal family experience served as the catalyst for her to become an advocate and public speaker for individuals with mental illness. Her focus is to open the doors and promote change in our mental health system.
Joan speaks regularly to colleges, churches, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) groups, high schools, communities, and mental health service providers.
Conference Highlights- Three keynote presentations, support groups, talent show, 20 breakout sessions, and an extra this year: Mind Your Body! (an energetic urban dance fitness class that mixes top-40 music, easy to follow dance moves, and mental health education). This class will be held off-site at the close of the conference, and will be free for conference attendees.
Join us for our annual educational conference for mental health professionals, families, individuals living with mental illness, advocates and friends.
